History

Die Wagenhallen are located in the north of Stuttgart, or to be more precise in the inner Nordbahnhof, where railroad workers and their families once lived. Today, small businesses and a multicultural flair coexist here.

They were built at the end of the 19th century as locomotive depots. For more than a century locomotives, and later buses were maintained and repaired there. Since 2003 the city of Stuttgart owns the property and has leased the building for cultural purposes as well as storage and workshops to the Kulturbetrieb Wagenhallen GmbH & Co. KG. Step by step, creatives and cultural workers peacefully took over the space. Over the years, they built up a creative free space and carved out a unique oasis which is second to none in the region.

Since 2003, Stuttgart‘s Wagenhallen are a place to encounter art, culture, and events, a one-of-a-kind and precious blend of open terrain and development.

All available spaces are revitalized. They allow for maximum flexibility when it comes to sustainable use and space design. It’s been almost 20 years since we started with the first concerts, parties, weddings, and corporate events. We grew with each new challenge. What started as a temporary use with an open end became a unique location for corporate events, trade fairs, and cultural events, providing an event space for up to 2100 guests.
